About Our Food Bank serving Arizona and parts of the Southwest.

Nogales, Arizona which sits on the border with our sister city of Nogales, Sonora Mexico has always had a high poverty and unemployment rate causing our citizens to have hunger issues. After a few local organizations like the Lions Club and Mariposa Community Health Center, wrestled with trying to help feed the needy of Santa Cruz County, it was decided, by those same organizations that it was time to form a local food bank thus giving birth to Borderland Food Bank in mid 1994. A small warehouse was leased, and Borderland began to distribute Emergency Food Boxes and fresh produce.

At the beginning the food bank had two food box programs, to date we have eight food distribution programs, our largest being our Produce Program. Because we sit in the center of the produce industry, billions of pounds of produce cross these gates from Mexico via Canada and the United States, some of which is donated to Borderland Food Bank. Borderland solicits, receives, warehouses and distributes between 20 and 38 million pounds of unmarketable produce per produce season. Prior to our existence this nutritious product was being dumped at the local dumpsite causing saturation of the site and waste of good nutritious product.
We help families that are hungry and in need. Help our Food Bank serve the people of Southern Arizona.

In 2002 with the help of a large grant from the Arizona State Attorney General’s Office we were able to purchase a 26,000 square foot warehouse. This warehouse was originally built by a local produce company therefore giving us all of the needed space and cold rooms to house the produce.

There are lots of kids left behind by society who don't have enough food to eat. Help us help these kids. Our food bank supplies food to kids and families in Arizona and across the Southwest.
In late 2007, we merged with Feed My People Children’s Charities and now have a sister food bank, Northern Arizona Food Bank. Strategically situated, both Arizona Food Banks can help cover the entire State with this nutritious produce.

As stated in our Mission we want to help feed the needy nutritiously; hence this produce is distributed first in our community, second throughout the State of Arizona and lastly is offered to organizations throughout the Nation.

We'd like to encourage you to donate to our food bank to help those in need. All donations to our food bank are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our Tax ID number is 73-1330955.
